China has issued its latest plans to relieve pressure on early-career researchers (seego.nature.com/3qbypyx; in Chinese). These scientists will benefit from increased financial and pastoral support, a reduction in non-academic duties, an expanded range of criteria for evaluating performance, and opportunities to lead important national projects and talent programmes.
